For the past year or so I've been building an app with my son Josh, and it's finally out. It's called Let's Build It and it lets kids make their own apps and games just by talking.
The best way to get a feel for it is to watch the video Josh and I made. It explains everything from a high level:
Josh is 6 and an absolute legend, but he can't read yet.
He's always got plenty of ideas though, and for a while I was the one typing them into Claude or Codex.
I wanted him to get that joy of building things himself tho, so Let's Build It is entirely voice driven. He just talks to it, and then I have a whole process of agents and whatnot that build it in the background for him.
For me I would much rather that screen time is spent being creative rather than passively watching tv or whatnot.
The problem is, a lot of the places kids make games have pretty perverse incentives to make more money. So thats why I want no ads in Let's Build It and everything he makes stays private. Theres also a whole profile section that I can setup as a parent to control the things that the AI builds for him.
It's free to download on the App Store for iPhone and iPad, and I'm actively working on the Android version. You can find out more on the Let's Build It website.
If you've got kids, I'd love to hear what they come up with!
I'm going to do a follow-up video that goes into the technical details of how it all works, which will probably go on the Convex YouTube channel. I'll post it here once it's out.
